Handball Autumn

The Frankfurter HC women's handball team also coped well in their next seven matches, suffering only one defeat.

The Frankfurt HC won the fifth match of the season as guests of SC Markranstädt on 16 October with a hard-fought 29:26 (13:12). The start of the game was different than hoped - the opponents initially led 4:0. It was not until the 11th minute that Michéle Dürrwald was able to score the first field goal after two penalty throws by Monika Odrowska. Fortunately, Frankfurt had their goalkeeper Ashley-Ann Busse. The 18-year-old had been given preference this time by coach Steffen Obst and confirmed the coach's decision by defusing almost half of all the throws fired at her goal. The equaliser came in the 22nd minute, after which the Frankfurt players had a better grip on the game. After the changeover, the Frankfurt team extended their lead to four goals and then secured the away victory in a game that remained tightly contested.

On 30 October, Frankfurter HC lost to HC Rödertal 30:35 (11:16) in the top match - both teams were undefeated until then and shared the top of the table. After an offensively and defensively poor start of the FHC, the guests quickly managed a 5:1 lead. The women from Oderstadt fought back again and again but HC Rödertal did not let them catch up. When they failed to catch up again at 20:22, the visitors scored 8 goals in nine minutes to take a 30:20 lead (48th). But the Frankfurt team did not give up and created a new atmosphere in the hall

with a 7:1 goal run within eight minutes. Even though it was not enough to win, coach Steffen Obst praised his team: "Nevertheless, a huge compliment to my team for not giving up at any point".

As guests at HV Chemnitz, the women from the Oderstadt won 30:23 (15:7) on 7 November. With a few changes in the starting line-up, the Frankfurt team took the initiative in Saxony right from the start. Due to a breakdown in the game after the break, HV Chemnitz managed to reduce the score to 17:22. A goal by Michéle Dürrwald and a safely converted seven-meter by Monika Odrowska brought more calm back into the game, which finally led to a well-deserved victory.

Despite some starting problems in both halves, the Frankfurt women's handball team won the Berlin-Brandenburg derby against the Berlin TSC on 13 November with a clear 40:19 (19:11). At first, the Oderstadt women did not manage to get into the game well, which is why the FHC keeper was challenged. Only after 20 minutes (10:10) the team managed to pull away (16:10). A false start after the break allowed the guests to breathe a sigh of relief again, but with an incredible 18:2 goals (twelve of them in a row), the Frankfurt players then literally outplayed the TSC and secured the victory.

The start of the ninth match of the season on 21 November at Thüringer HC II was equal - 6:6 after 13 minutes. However, due to mistakes by the Frankfurt team, the hosts pulled away. Although the Frankfurt players managed to equalise in the 24th minute, the Thuringians pulled away again until the break (18:13). With a six-goal deficit, the FHC started to catch up - goal by goal, the women from the Oderstadt caught up and thanks to the will and commitment of Michéle Dürrwald, who repeatedly looked for gaps in the Thuringian defence, and six awarded penalty kicks, the game ended 31:28 (13:18) for the Frankfurt HC. Michéle Dürrwald (back Frankfurt HC) said after the game: "In the second half we found our game better. We still all have the same goal and didn't want to lose here in any case. Our biggest shortcoming at the moment is that we often miss the opening phase. That's something we should take to heart, because with a performance like that from the start, we wouldn't get into trouble in the first place."

Successful team victory on 4 December in the home match in front of empty stands against Pfeffersport Berlin with an unchallenged 35:28 (20:13) victory. After ten minutes, the Oderstadt team was already 7:2 ahead, thanks in part to a strong performance by goalkeeper Mandy Schneider. Coach Steffen Obst used a 4:2 defence to put the Berliners' goal threat out of action. "We had great respect for our opponents and their experienced players. That's why we took special

tactical measures in defence to take them out of the game in time and the girls did a great job. I am very proud of that."  After the break, Steffen Obst changed the players and thanks to a constant performance in goal, it was bearable that not everything worked out as planned. Young talents were also able to add their names to the list of scorers and round off the team's success.

For the last game of the year, the Frankfurt HC played the last team in the table, SG Meißen/Riesa, on 12 December and ended the year with a clear 47:26 (23:10) victory.
The Oderstadt team started the game with a few changes in the starting line-up. After ten minutes they were already 8:1 ahead in the unequal duel. The ball wins in defence often led to converted counter-attack goals. Even after the break, with a clear 23:10, the Frankfurt players kept up the tempo game and extended their lead to 32:11 within eight minutes (38th). A lack of concentration by the Frankfurt women shortly before the end of the game gave the hosts the opportunity to slightly improve the result in their favour.
Lin Lück, who was substituted in the 52nd minute and is one of the youngest players ever to have played in an FHC women's team, scored her first third league goal.
Coach Steffen Obst expressed his satisfaction after the match: "Youth is a big trump card we have in Frankfurt. I wanted to give the young players more playing time today. I am also proud that we were able to involve Lin today, that she stood well in defence and that she scored her first goal".

This means that the Frankfurt HC women's handball team have temporarily taken the lead in the table after the 12th match day with 20:2 points.
