Marvin Fritz sensational performance in the Superbike World Championship

At short notice, Marvin Fritz was given the opportunity to replace the injured Italian Roberto Tamburini at the Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) in Estoril/PRT last weekend and climb into the saddle of his Yamaha R 1 from Team Motoxracing. A promising and eventful weekend with the prospect of top ten finishes and a display of Marvin Fritz's riding skills. A stroke of luck and an opportunity, but also a tough weekend and a jump into the deep end. Fritz: "After landing in Estoril on Thursday morning with only a few hours sleep, there was no time to waste. A different team crew, a different bike and, for the first time in over a year, sprint races in which every centimetre is fought to the last groove over a distance of 21 laps."
Every minute of the qualifying sessions was used intensively to tailor the Yamaha to Marvin. The result and Fritz's riding performance clearly exceeded the expectations of Motoxracing Yamaha team boss Sandro Carusi. The start of the race also went well. However, a crash through no fault of his own due to an overtaking manoeuvre by Frenchman Boris Baz / BMW slowed Fritz down and sent him back from 9th to 17th place. After the race, team boss Sandro Carusi paid tribute to the performance of the German substitute rider. Carusi: "A fast young man. The fact that he got to grips with the Yamaha in such a short time surprised us all. Without the crash, which was not his fault, both races would have gone really well".
